Bluewater Anglers are now offering freshwater fishing trips to Sawai Lake in Phuket. Set in a quiet location a short distance from the main resort areas of Patong, Karon and Kata, Sawai Lake offers anglers a great opportunity to catch Pacu, Giant Mekong Catfish, Striped Catfish, Giant Gourami, Striped Snakehead, Schwanenfelds Barb and Tilapia.
The lake holds a good stock of a variety of species that include Giant Mekong Catfish, Striped Catfish, Walking Catfish, Pacu, Giant Gourami, Tilapia and Striped Snakeheads.
The most common species are Pacu and Striped Catfish, which provide great sport on light to medium tackle.
Fish up to 7 kg are present, but the average size is around 3–5 kg.
Giant Mekong Catfish are the largest fish in the lake and are present to 14 kg. The Giant Mekong Catfish are massively powerful considered by many to be the strongest fighting fish in the world, and no other species in either salt or freshwater can compete with them for power and stamina!

Sawai Lake is not an easy venue, and results are not as good as our other freshwater venues. However in saying this, there are not many lakes anywhere in the world that can compete with Bungsam Lan Lake in Bangkok!
The fish at Sawai Lake are usually a good distance out in the lake and a long cast is required to reach the fish. The methods we use are a scaled down version of the rigs, equipment and baits that we use at Bungsam Lan, similar to Carp fishing methods that are used in Europe.
Sawai Lake offers anglers a low price introduction to some of the fascinating fish found in the lakes and rivers of Thailand.

The fishing area of the Lake is approximately 180 x 120 meters in size,
with trees and vegetation surrounding a lot of the perimeter.
Sawai Lake has basic facilities, which include toilet, a small restaurant
that serves Thai food, soft and alcoholic drinks.
There is also a small tackle shop that sells basic essentials. All fishing trips include:
Round trip transfer between your Phuket hotel
and Sawai Lake.
Full assistance of a fishing guide.
All fishing equipment and bait.
Unlimited fishing from 8.00 until 18.00.
Lunch.
Not Included:
Soft drinks and alcohol.
(These can be purchased very cheaply at the lake).
Total price per person:
2300 THB + 7% VAT per day.
Two or more anglers, 2000 THB + 7% VAT each per day.
Extra rods including bait: 300 THB each.
Non–fishermen are welcome to join you at Sawai Lake free of charge.
