Ko Rok |
 |
|
Ko Rok are two beautiful Islands situated 55 miles south east of Phuket the
islands are split in two by a narrow channel. The actual islands are a mix of limestone mountainous rock, with tropical jungle leading down to one of the best white sandy beaches in Thailand.
The narrow channel that divides the islands is quite shallow, and is an excellent place to anchor up for the night in one of the most peaceful, stunning locations in the Andaman Sea. The swimming and snorkeling is superb, with an incredible coral reef providing a home to many multi-colored reef fish and crustaceans. The area is popular among the yachting community, and is known in their circles as "Long Nose Island" due to the vast numbers of Sailfish that habitat Ko Rok for much of the year.
Ko Rok is also known as the "Sailfish Capital of Asia", and with good reason… The record for the most number of Sailfish released in one day stands at an incredible 24 fish!
The fishing is best first thing in the morning, or more often than not, during the afternoon period. Outside of these times we tend to target other species that are present, including Barracuda, King Mackerel, Wahoo, Rainbow Runner, Dorado, and several specials of Tuna. The most productive method for the Sailfish is to troll a spread of Tuna belly–strips behind a double line of teasers.
Please click on the name of one of the above fish to view a photo gallery of the
species.
Please note we operate a catch and release policy for all Marlin, Sailfish and Sharks.
Another method than can work well at Ko Rok is fly–fishing for Sailfish. First we raise the Sailfish by trolling daisy–chain squid teasers, and then when the Sailfish are within range, we cast the fly back to them. Without question, Ko Rok is the best destination for this method to be successful.
Please note, should you want to fly–fish, please bring along your own equipment and flies.
12 miles west of Ko Rok lies the reef Hin Deang, which is a good option to try for Wahoo, Dorado, Barracuda, King Mackerel and Tuna.
The best time to visit Ko Rok is from the beginning of September, right through until the end of April.

Ko Ha |

39 miles south east of Phuket lies a group of 5 islands named Ko Ha. The name Ko Ha comes from the Thai word for five, which is Ha, Ko meaning Island. This is another must visit place for anglers wishing to target Sailfish, and the crystal clear 50 meter deep water is also home to many of the species that can be found around Ko Rok. The water is so clear, that whilst snorkeling it is often possible to see many of the fish you are intending to catch.
